Vacation days

Within NMBS, there is not one uniform leave system for everyone. The number of leave days depends on your position, work regime and status. In general, employees receive at least the statutory vacation days, supplemented by so-called credit days and other compensation days. According to NMBS itself, an employee receives "a minimum of 20 vacation days, supplemented by credit days".

In practice, you often see combinations such as:

  • 20 statutory vacation days
  • additional credit days
  • possibly compensation days for a 36-hour week or specific working-hour arrangements
  • public holidays and any replacement days according to the applicable scheme

As a result, many employees end up with:

  • approximately 33 days (20 + 13 credit days),
  • or even 35 to 40 days depending on the position and work system.

For operational positions (train driver, train conductor, signal box staff, etc.), leave planning is often linked to staffing levels and duty rosters. As a result, taking leave can sometimes be less flexible than in a traditional office environment.

As an NMBS employee, you can generally also make use of:

  • sick leave according to the applicable HR Rail/NMBS regulations;
  • parental leave and other thematic leaves;
  • career interruption or time credit according to the statutory and sectoral provisions;
  • exceptional leave for certain family events

You will work in the Polyvalent Workshop of Melle. In this workshop, approximately 300 employees work on the maintenance, inspection, repair and cleaning of diesel traction equipment and electric equipment. The workshop was put into use in October 2018 and is easily accessible. You like a variable working schedule. You are willing to work in a shift system in which you regularly (1 week out of 5) work nights and weekends.

As a technician/electrician, your main task is maintaining our trains, but there is more:

  • You maintain both electric equipment and diesel equipment.
  • You detect faults and repair them.
  • You build up thorough knowledge of the train equipment.
  • You assist in urgent problem situations.
  • You correctly apply and check the safety measures for rail traffic.

Every day, the employer transports almost one million passengers. Safely, punctually and with a warm smile. They buy or build, manage and maintain their own trains and buildings. Sustainability is the common thread running through all their activities.

As a public service provider, the employer wants to play a key role in the field of mobility and thus form an essential link in the socioeconomic sphere.

Diversity and inclusion are important to Accent. Whoever, whatever or however you are or whatever you stand for, it's your talents that make the difference.
