Job description

As a Railway Operator, you are responsible for handling a train upon arrival and/or departure:

For this vacancy, we are looking for someone who is willing to perform the following tasks;

  • You perform a technical inspection of various parts of a train (cargo, coupling, ...)

  • You check for damage to a wagon and decide whether it can continue

  • You check whether dangerous goods are being transported correctly

  • You test the brakes of the train

  • You check the safety regulations


Your profile

As a Railway Operator, you enjoy working outdoors. Additionally, you work in a different schedule each time and thus end up in a full-continuous system. For the position of railway operator, you possess the following competencies and skills: - You already have some technical knowledge or affinity and have an understanding of technology - You enjoy doing physical work and like being outdoors - You are someone who takes safety rules to heart and always respects them - You can easily come up with your own plan independently and have a very strong sense of responsibility - You are eager to learn and fully commit yourself during an internal (and paid) training of 8-12 weeks in Ghent - You communicate very fluently in the Dutch language - You can easily handle apps/smartphones - You are in possession of a driving license B because in the port you drive a company car It is important to know that the theoretical training will take place in Ghent from 23/09/24. The practical training takes place at the site for which you have applied. Afterwards, your fixed workplace will be: Antwerp, Ghent/Zeebrugge, Genk, La Louvière, or Kinkempois (Liège), depending on which vacancies are open and for which you have applied You find yourself in the following: * Physical labor does not scare you * You are 'Fit for Duty': you have a great responsibility in terms of safety, which is why there is zero tolerance for alcohol and drugs * Collegial/team player, but can also work well independently * Good communicator: coordinating with the train driver for coupling and uncoupling train wagons * Flexible: working in shifts and 1 in 2 weekends * Safety is number 1: you also dare to take initiative if you have doubts about safety * Stress resistant * You are reliable and can handle the given 'freedom'
